Early Life

Florence Osuji, born on the 25th of August, 1964 to a family of 9, was raised by her mother, having lost her father at the young age of 4. 
Being born in the bubbly business district of Lagos Island in Nigeria’s commercial hub of Lagos State may have prepared Florence early to face life’s challenges, as she was able to swiftly navigate the early challenges of growing up among siblings with conflicting needs and constrains to taking the critical decision to brace the odds. 

Florence Osuji’s career journey at the Embassy of Israel started in October 1992 as Secretary to the Commercial Counsellor, after many years of working at INCAR, an automobile firm in Lagos.

At some time, Florence doubled as the Consul assistant, conducting visa interviews, documents verification and assisted with the issuance of visa, transiting to become desk officer on Press, Consular, Hasbara (Information & Culture), and coordinator of MASHAV, a Hebrew acronym for the Agency for International Development Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel.

As Senior Economic Officer at the Embassy of Israel, Florence inter-phased with the leaderships of prominent public and private institutions, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Nigeria, the Nigerian Export-Import (NEXIM) Bank, Debt Management Office (DMO), Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), Nigeria Customs Service, Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Security Printing and Minting PLC (NSPMC), Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMAL), Lagos, among many others.

As the Economic Officer of the Embassy of Israel in Nigeria, Florence facilitated several programmes in collaboration with MASAHV and relevant institutions in Nigeria that led to Nigeria having the largest number of MASHAV Beneficiaries, a feat that culminated to her being charged with the responsibility of establishing a Shalom club in Nigeria, which she successfully did by establishing the National Shalom Club of Nigeria in Lagos 1996, followed by three zonal chapters in Cross Rivers, Abuja and Gombe State.

Florence coordinated several important meetings with economic entities, and facilitated state visits for the Ambassador and Israeli Business Community that led to the establishment of key bodies, including the first and Only Lagos State Agricultural Training Research Program (AGRIC-YES) in Lagos; the First Nigeria Tomatoes Paste firm established in Ondo State by Mr. Reuven Cohen of Afri-Fruits; establishment of a huge State-owned Agricultural Farm with exportable vegetables International Standard by another Israeli Mr. Israel Kidron of ONIDA; establishment of the biggest State of the Art Poultry Firm by an Israeli Company AGRITED in Oyo State and the commissioning In Niger State, among other accomplishments.

Florence has played pivotal roles in the hosting of several conference and meetings to advance the course of the Israel Mission in Nigeria. Some of the important events that she coordinated include the Homeland Security Conference and Exhibition in Israel; The International Water & Environmental Technology Week Exhibition & Conference (WATEC ISRAEL); Agritech Conference and Exhibition, among others.

Florence is the National coordinator of the Nigeria Isreal Business Forum (NIBF), the brainchild of several capacity building events for decision makers and several senior government officials from Nigeria to Israel which she facilitated.  

She was also the desk officer on ECOWAS related issues between the Embassy and ECOWAS Commission Headquarters, sequel to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ECOWAS and the State of Israel on the 9th of September, 2009 to reinforce ties between the two in the areas of trade and other sectors of development.

Florence, it was that coordinated the participation of The Ministers of Agriculture in the ECOWAS Region to a specially designed Agricultural training in Israel that led to the signing of a working agreement on Agriculture.

Florence,  a devote catholic, rose from the weighty cloud of being suddenly widowed sequel to the demise of her husband on the 10th of November, 2007 to becoming a fulfilled mother, who took care of many children beyond her biological kids.
